What's a professional tarot session like?

Doing a tarot session on Moonlight is a unique and enriching experience. Let's walk you through what it's like and how to get set up.

Before your session

  • Minimal preparation needed: There's really no preparation required. Just ensure your technology (camera, microphone, and internet) is in working order. You can test a room first! It’s also better to join from desktop, but joining from your phone will work too.
  • Get comfortable: Feel free to engage in any personal rituals before your session, like making a cup of tea or finding a quiet and peaceful spot.
  • Come as you are: Bring yourself, along with a question or theme you have in mind. You can typically be as vague or specific as you like. Every professional has their own style, and some might not require a question.
  • Joining the room: There's a room link in your confirmation emails, in your calendar invite, as well as on your Upcoming page. (We made it easy!)

During the Session

  • Interactive conversations: Most tarot readings on Moonlight are conversational and interactive. However, the level of participation varies with each reader and according to your level of comfort.
  • Camera use is optional: You can choose to turn off your camera and use only audio. We respect your privacy and comfort level.
  • Confidentiality: Moonlight are private experiences. Unless you explicitly make arrangements with permission of your host, nothing is recorded, ensuring your readings remain confidential and personal. We also encourage taking screenshots as an artifact for your reading, but it doesn’t hurt to ask the host first!

Shared interactions

  • Real-time card movement: When you drag cards or make changes in the tarot room, everyone in the room experiences everything in real-time. This includes shuffling cards, selecting spreads, or even drawing on the table.
  • Dynamic environment: Anyone in the room can also change the background or change the deck, contributing to a shared and dynamic tarot experience. If you have any digital decks in your collection, they’ll be with you in the room.

What your host can’t see

  • Guidebook exploration: Any interaction with the guidebook, including reading artist notes or keywords about the cards, remains private to you.
  • Custom views: Your zoom and pan levels are unique to your screen and aren't visible to the host, accommodating different monitor sizes.

Bringing friends or sharing your session

  • Sharing the experience: You're probably welcome to bring a friend to your session or make a fun broadcast through screensharing. Just ensure you get consent from your host first, as some prefer private sessions.

Tarot's flexibility

  • Open to many types of inquiry: Tarot can be light or in-depth, depending on what you bring to it. Feel free to ask specific questions or just general guidance. Look within and see what’s top of mind! Just remember to steer clear of medical, legal, or financial inquiries, in line with our guidelines.
  • Curiosity is welcome: If you're doing a tarot session out of curiosity, a question like "What do I need to know right now?" is perfectly fine.

Doing a tarot lesson

For lessons, it’s helpful to communicate with the tarot professional beforehand about your journey and what you’re hoping to learn. These sessions are about mentorship, gaining new perspectives, and asking questions about tarot’s archetypes, techniques, and benefits.
